Testing with Classroom Performance System (CPS)

The testing interface for Classroom Performance System (CPS) accommodates students working off a paper quiz or test at their own pace. You can administer the same test, different tests, or multiple versions of the same test simultaneously. This powerful functionality is an excellent way to streamline the grading of your objective assessments.

How does it work?

Student using CPS to take a testWith CPS, you can coordinate your existing paper quizzes and tests to CPS lessons with the Fast Grade tool. Within seconds, you can create your own assessments in CPS without having to recreate your tests by typing them or copying and pasting them. Simply select the correct answer for each question and you will have created a lesson in a snap.

When you are ready to administer the test, simply deliver the CPS lesson(s) where the answer key has been created. If only one version of the test is being administered, the students will begin the test when the teacher clicks start.

If multiple versions are being administered, the students will be first asked to designate which test version they are taking before the test actually begins.

Once the teacher has started the test, the students have the option to answer the questions in order, out of order, change their mind, and check the answers. This simple interface allows students to proceed through the test at their own pace.

Students have the ability to return to a previous question or skip a question with the navigation keys on the response pad.

When a student changes an answer on a question, the question number will turn yellow. If a student enters the same answer as they did before (to check they entered the intended answer) the question number will turn green. Once a student is finished, both the student pad number and the question number will turn blue. The test isn't over until the teacher ends the session, so students have the flexibility to modify and check their answers until the teacher has ended the test.

Using CPS with Worksheets

The Student-Managed Practice Mode uses the same interface referenced above. The difference is that students will be forced to enter a correct answer before being taken to the next question. The student knows instantly that the question was missed and will be forced to re-examine the question and try again. CPS records the number of times it takes a student to enter the correct answer.

There is no other system that allows students to get individualized immediate feedback with only one computer in a classroom. Manual grading is eliminated and teachers can quickly and accurately address the learning standards that need the attention.

Using OpScan® OMR Scanners with CPS

Only Pearson Assessments can offer you the ability to utilize OpScan® scanners to score paper-based OMR tests within CPS. In this way, longer assessments or practice tests for state-mandated assessments can be easily administered and scored using the same software tool as that used within the classroom for ongoing daily assessments. Schools can now use the same tool to administer daily assessments, while still being able to give students the ability to practice utilizing the OMR answer sheets, which continue to be most commonly used for state mandated assessments.

Tests developed utilizing the ExamView® Test Generator can be administered and scored using the CPS software and OpScan scanners.
