How Classroom Performance System (CPS) Works

With the Classroom Performance System (CPS), you can ask objective and subjective questions. Then, every student responds with their individual, wireless response pad. In addition to assessing classroom comprehension, CPS also grades quizzes and homework in a matter of seconds. CPS keeps a log of every class session you create, so your records are always available at the click of a mouse.

Question Builder

CPS makes building lessons simple. You can utilize questions directly from the ExamView item banks provided from your textbook instructor's guide to administer and build assessments, or create lessons or assessments directly within CPS.

Question Builder CPS makes building lessons simple. Use over 57 different question templates to build your tests, quizzes, and lessons. Let your creativity flourish by adding graphics and diagrams to complement questions.

CPS makes it easy to keep lessons organized because you can delete questions at any time. To make lesson creating even easier banks have been created specifically for CPS in a variety of subject areas and grade levels.

Need a lesson in a hurry? Use the Fast Grade utility to create an answer key for a lesson or quiz in a matter of seconds by correlating your current paper quizzes and tests.

Test DeliveryQuestion Delivery

Simply pose a question verbally or create ahead of time using one of the 57 question templates and wait a few seconds while each student enters an answer on his or her individual response pad. Every student is involved. No one is embarrassed or shy about giving an answer. They're having fun and behind the scenes CPS is correlating all the results, freeing the teacher to teach. Use the technology in your classroom one time and your students will ask for more!

Every student receives a pad with a number on it. Build a roster that catalogs a student's pad number with the student's name. Once you deliver a question, students respond with their individual pad and their answers are recorded. The squares on the bottom of the screen corresponding to their response pad light up when a student's answer is recorded. Students can change their answer at any time until either the timer expires, or the teacher ends the question.

Students and teachers receive immediate feedback on the correct answer and what percentage of the class answered correctly without overtly identifying which students answered incorrectly. That information is stored within the CPS system for the teacher's review and action.

Giving a Test

Use your current paper quizzes and tests (you can easily enter in the answers with the CPS Fast Grade tool) along with the student-managed assessment or practice to administer and grade all of your objective assessments.

Pad IDs and Student Responses
Pad IDs and Student Responses

Students working on their own or in teams can proceed through the test or worksheet at their own pace, skip questions, change their answers, and change their minds on every question. Once every one has finished or the time has expired, you can view the results instantaneously and provide that information to your students on the spot. CPS can administer multiple tests or multiple versions of the same test to accommodate a variety of assessment needs.

CPS Reports

View Sample ReportsAll data received from your question sessions is recorded in the CPS system and a number of reports can be generated detailing the results. These reports allow you to:

  • View each student's performance and grade
  • Identify questions that are stumping the class
  • Print or review reports online, including every question asked and how each student responded
  • See how each student and the class performed on your state and district standards

You can export these reports to a document, spreadsheet file, HTML file, or your grade book. Or you can take the results straight into the CPS grade book.

Challenge BoardChallenge Board

Encourage collaborative learning by using the fun, interactive challenge board. Similar to a Jeopardy game format, the challenge board keeps questions in categories, which the students answer in teams or as individuals. Students are engaged and enjoy reviewing for upcoming tests when you use the challenge board!
